Few iOS games are in need of an update more than Reign of Dragons, a free-to-play card battler from Drecom. Powered by GREE, this title requires an online connection to play and constantly draws on that social network behind the scenes, which ultimately results in players staring slack-jawed at the tiny spinning wheel that appears even for doing the simplest things, like cycling through menus and claiming rewards. It's a shame, because we like the gameplay, epic-sounding music and attractive art. Apparently, so do thousands of other people, as Reign of Dragons is currently one of the most popular games on the App Store.
If you do get it to work, consider yourself lucky, as there's quite a meaty experience to dig into. Story wise, the game takes place within a fantasy realm filled with all manner of creatures. Not just dragons, but also humongous spiders, man-eating plants and werewolves. You'll also find an assortment of humanoid characters with various magic attacks. That said, the goal, as with most if not all games like this, is to build an ultimate deck comprised of death-dealing cards, then go on quests to battle enemies, picking up loot and new cards along the way, which you're free to enhance and evolve; fusing copies is a great way to make them stronger.
At the start, you must choose one of three card types (Justice, Chaos or Genesis), each one possessing unique attributes, advantages and disadvantages. What's more, you can utilize the social platform to make friends, invite allies to help out during battles and send messages.
Of course, there's a price to pay for such adventuring, and it comes in the form of Stamina. Since you only have a limited amount per day, the developers force you to refill the bar via in-app purchase, where you can also acquire more cards and the game's virtual currencies.
That is, if all goes according to plan. The loading is so bad our iPhones eventually went to sleep, only to be awoken and display the same load screen. For now, we'll just have to guess that the sheer volume of players attempting to connect wrecked the experience; on that note, our Wi-Fi connection is just fine.

It's a shame, because we really dig Reign of Dragons' artwork, as well as the new monster types born from evolving two of the same cards. Battles are fast-paced, the loot practically pours from the iPhone speakers and there's obviously a dedicated community itching to get the most from what this ambitious game has to offer. It's all for nothing, however, if they can't connect.
Harrahs win loss statement. [Editor's Note: Did you have better luck getting Reign of Dragons to work? If so, consider this a 4/5 game, easy.]
What's Hot: Beautiful illustrations, speedy battles, money bins full of gold and other prizes, making friends and sending messages, free-to-play.
What's Not: Horrendous connection issues, excessive loading.

Game Introduction – Reign of Dragons

Reign of Dragons is a card-based fighting game developed by Drecom. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.
Quick Start Guide
Getting Started
- To download the game, click the “Play Now” button at the top of this page.
- Once downloaded, click the “play” button
- That’s it! You’re ready to start the game!
How to Play
- Starting Card: When you first fire up Reign of Dragons, it asks you to select your first card. The card you select gives you a suggestion (based on that card) on how you’d like to play. Naturally, I’m more aggressive/offensive as a player and I selected the Chaos card. However, you’re not going to be tied into this choice. Through questing and collecting new cards, as well as boosting your stats, you can mold your character as you see fit later on.
- Card Packs: Completing quests and winning battles against real opponents will earn you “Friendship Points”. For every 1000 Friendship Points that you earn in the game, you are eligible to get a card pack, which gives you ten different cards.

- Questing/Battling: To receive cards and awards outside of the free ones that are given to you when you fire up the game, you will have to complete quests. In the above screenshot you can see the cards that I have chosen to fight the baddies, which is handled prior to beginning the quest. From there, you’ll notice the energy, experience and progress.
- Stamina: Much like every other freemium game out there, you’ll have an energy bar of some sort. Every quest that you undertake will drain a certain amount of stamina from you. Once stamina is depleted, you will either have to wait for it to recharge (which it does fairly quickly), or purchase energy drinks to get back into the action immediately. The game currently has 15 minute “rushes” where you can quest without having any stamina being drained, and is a very effective way of leveling up quickly.
- Experience: This bar is simply to show you your progress on your next level.
- Progress: This bar will show you how far along you are in your quest. After completing a few of these battles you will typically face off against a boss.
- Quest Common Battles: In quest common battles, which is the one you see in the above screenshot, there is not anything to be concerned about. See the tap button? You tap that for however many enemies there are on the screen and then you move on. The only roadblock is energy.
- Battle Rewards: For each quest battle that you win, you will earn a new card, coins, items that enhance your character, or some combination thereof.
- Card Evolution: Between your card packs, quest rewards, you will likely get two of the same cards at some point. Usually this would be a drag, but not in Reign of Dragons! Instead, if you get two of the same cards, you can “evolve” the card into one much more powerful card through its card evolution system. See below—I evolved two vanilla “thunderbird” into a “Thunderbird ++”, which has a higher level than the previous two cards, with higher attack and defense power.

- Enhancing Cards: With enhancing cards, you can simply sacrifice unneeded cards to enhance a current, more suitable one. Most of the cards you pull will be fairly common, so pile all your extras together and boost the cards you plan on taking out and questing with. Enhancing costs gold, so be conscious that you have enough to go through with the enhancements.
- Boss Battles: Boss battles are the end point of each quest. These are tougher fights, with the bosses actually able to attack you. In these fights, defense is much more of an attribute that you will want to take note of before heading in. However, when you finish off a boss, it typically will give you huge experience bonuses, as well as a treasure trove of goodies dropped (stamina potions, coins, items that enhance your cards skills).
- Premium Packs: In order to get the really good cards, you’re simply going to have to suck it up and purchase premium packs like the one noted above. These packs contain the “rare” and “ultra” cards that will send your game to the next level.
- Gems: In order to purchase premium packs and other assorted goodies, you will have to purchase “gems”, which is the premium currency that the game has. The prices are noted above. There unfortunately are no discounts for bigger purchases.
Reign Of Dragons Card Guide
- Battles: If you’re bored of questing, you can battle other players. Choose the battle option at the bottom of your screen to begin, select your opponent, then your cards, and get to fighting. These all come down to dice rolls and how good of a card you possess with regards to attack and defense. Winning battles earns you rewards that will help you in the next battle.
- Guild: In addition to friendships, there is a guild system. The guild acts as a backup or assistance when you attack or defend against other players.
- Boost Points:Boost points are tied to your character and help determine how well and how long you can battle for. There are only three parameters that you can spend points on, which are displayed above. Energy defines how much energy your card has to continue fighting, while attack and defense power are self-explainable.

Tips and Tricks:
- Strength in Numbers: In a game like this, it really comes down to a numbers game. You have to have a guild at your back, with better cards than your opponent, or you will lose. Straight up. Link up with friends and pool your resources or you will get stomped.
Congratulations!
